Zum Demokratiebegriff in der Vergleichenden Demokratieforschung

Zusammenfassung

Der Demokratiebegriff ist normativer und konzeptueller Dreh- und Angelpunkt der Vergleichenden Demokratieforschung. Lange verwendeten Demokratieforscher den Begriff als universalistische Analysekategorie, so v. a. in standardisierten Bevölkerungsumfragen in denen vorausgesetzt wurde, dass ›Demokratie‹ weltweit gleich verstanden wird (z. B. Klingemann 1999). Die Annahme der weltweiten Bedeutungsgleichheit von ›Demokratie‹ lässt sich jedoch aus einer pluralistischen Perspektive als naiv kritisieren. Demnach unterschlägt sie die Kontextgebundenheit von politischen Konzepten. Schließlich befänden sich Menschen, politische Theoretiker genauso wie ›normale‹ Bürger, immer in spezifischen kulturellen Kontexten, welche auch das politische Denken der Menschen prägten.
