Zusammenfassung

Die zweite Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts geht in die Geschichte ein, im Zeichen einer zunehmenden religiös-spirituellen Vitalisierung, die später New-Age-Bewegung genannt wurde. In den 1980er Jahren erreichte die Welle dieser Neubelebung ihren Höhepunkt, um gegen Ende des 20. Jahrhunderts an Dynamik zu verlieren. Ähnlich jedoch wie bei vielen anderen, durch Enthusiasmus gekennzeichneten Bewegungen, gingen die Ideen des New Age nicht völlig unter, sondern gewannen, indem sie in das soziokulturelle Gewebe Eingang fanden, Einfluss auf neue Weltansichten und verstärkten das Interesse nicht so sehr an Religion als an Spiritualität. Der Begriff „Religion“ weckt bei vielen Befürwortern dieser Bewegung negative Assoziationen, und sei es nur im Hinblick auf Verfolgungen, Inquisitionsprozesse und Religions-kriege, die in der Vergangenheit stattfanden.
