Zusammenfassung

Der Begriff des Sozialkapitals wurde in den Sozialwissenschaften in der zweiten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts heimisch. Er wurde von Pierre Bourdieu eingeführt und bürgerte sich dank der Arbeiten von James Coleman, Robert Putnam, Francis Fukuyama und vielen anderen Forschern ein. Obwohl die Konzepte der genannten Autoren stark voneinander abweichen, gehen sie alle davon aus, dass sich der Erfolg einer Gruppe nicht nur aus rationalen Gründen und Entscheidungen ergibt, sondern auch vom Charakter der Bindung zwischen ihren Mitgliedern abhängt. Darüber hinaus wirkt sich das soziale Kapital auf die Arbeitsweise der Regierung und der Wirtschaft aus, indem es durch die Senkung von Transaktionskosten (z.B. Prüfungs-, Gerichtsverfahrens- und Verhandlungskosten) die Koordination von Handlungen erleichtert.
