Abstract
Parallel and against the background of the history of Argentina, from the late 70s onwards, a punk scene evolved in Buenos Aires, the development of which was influenced by local conditions, but also by the impacts of global tendencies. The major developments and most significant particularities of more than 30 years of punk and hardcore in the capital of Argentina, will be illustrated in this chapter. The objective of this detailed description is to show how the punk and hardcore scene and the society of Buenos Aires are interrelated and how a strict separation between 'dominant culture' and 'sub-culture' is difficult to maintain.
