Zusammenfassung
Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts führte der dänische Botaniker und Genetiker Wilhelm Johannsen eine wegweisende begriffliche Differenzierung ein. Vom „Genotyp“, unter dem er die Gesamtheit der Erbanlagen eines Organismus verstand, unterschied er den „Phänotyp“, der sich auf dessen beobachtbare Merkmale bezog. Im Zuge der wachsenden Bedeutung genetischen Wissens in Biologie und Medizin, insbesondere nach der Entdeckung der DNS-Struktur in den 1950er Jahren, wurde diese begriffliche Differenzierung zur Grundlage für ein neues Körperkonzept: die Vorstellung eines „genetischen Körpers“ (Gudding 1996).
