Abstract

The colder the diesel engine, the more reluctant it is to start. Leakage and thermal losses reduce the compression pressure in the cold cylinders and with it the temperature of the compressed air. Cold engines have an outside- temperature limit, under which starting without the assistance of auxiliary startassist devices is no longer possible.
