Zusammenfassung
Die Darstellung der eigenen Identität stellt eine Grundvoraussetzung der Nutzung sozialer Medien dar und wird dennoch sehr widersprüchlich diskutiert, beispielsweise, wenn in Massenmedien die „Selbstdarstellungskultur“ als bedenklicher gesellschaftlicher Trend dargestellt wird. Dieser Beitrag zeigt auf, wie Identitätskonstruktion als zentrale Entwicklungsaufgabe des Menschen auch innerhalb sozialer Medien stattfindet und welche besonderen Ausdrucksformen dabei auftreten können. Online- und Offline-Identitäten ergänzen sich gegenseitig und bringen jeweils spezifische Chancen, aber auch Risiken mit sich, die im Rahmen dieses Beitrags diskutiert werden.
