Zusammenfassung

In diesem Beitrag beabsichtige ich, das Forschungsfeld der „health communication“, das sich in der nordamerikanischen Kommunikationswissenschaft seit etwa 30 Jahren entwickelt hat, in groben Strichen vorzustellen und einige Problemkonstellationen zu diskutieren. Im Hinblick auf die Terminologie schlage ich sowohl die Beibehaltung der englischen Bezeichnung Health Communication als auch die – allerdings noch keine breitere Verankerung gefundene und nicht ganz unproblematische Übersetzung mit „Gesundheitskommunikation“ vor. Eine wirklich tief greifende transdisziplinäre Begriffsanalyse (auch unter Einbeziehung anderer Sprachräume) scheint mir zum gegenwärtigen Zeitpunkt den Rahmen dieses Überblicksaufsatzes zu sprengen, desgleichen eine Integration mit den in einigen deutschsprachigen Publikationen zu Teilaspekten unseres Themas verwendeten Termini „Medizinkommunikation“ beziehungsweise „medizinische Kommunikation“ (Fischer 1988; Fischer 1990; Redder/Wiese 1994).
