Zusammenfassung

Nach der Beschreibung von allgemeinen Merkmalen des Spiels wird zunächst seine phylogenetische Herkunft bei Tieren exemplarisch beschrieben. Die individuelle Entwicklung des Spiels erfolgt in einer bestimmten Reihenfolge, aber alle Formen dienen der Lebensbewältigung. Auch im Erwachsenenalter hat das Spiel bestimmte Funktionen. Schließlich wird auf das Spiel als Grundlage für die Entstehung von Kultur eingegangen. Das EKO-Modell des Spiels rundet das Kapitel ab.
