Carsharing with Electric Vehicles and Vehicle-to-Grid: a future business model?

Radikale Innovationen in der Mobilität

Abstract

The current mobility paradigm, based on individual and fossil fueled mobility, is challenged by a variety of drivers. An important economic and ecological driver is crude oil. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), oil demand will increase and exceed production by 2035 which leads to major impacts on the availability and cost of this source of energy. [25] Furthermore, its use in combustion engines negatively effects the environment and global warming [24]. Also social drivers like “collaborative consumption” [15], [8] where participants share access to product or services (e.g. carsharing) or the phenomenon that young people show a decreasing interest in the automobile [10] and new increasingly important status symbols like smartphones, [1] for instance, create the need for innovative mobility solutions.
