Zusammenfassung
Was sind die Voraussetzungen für den wirtschaftlichen Erfolg von Nationen? Ein wichtiger Erfolgsfaktor für Volkswirtschaften, Regionen und Unternehmen sind Innovationen. Die Innovationsleistungsfähigkeit verlangt eine hohe Lern- und Anpassungsfähigkeit sowie einen raschen Wandel in Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft. Innovationen und die Innovationsleistungsfähigkeit von Volkswirtschaften und deren Bestimmungsgründe werden hier ins Zentrum gestellt. Ziel und Zweck dieses Buches ist es, die Zusammenhänge zwischen Innovation und Wirtschaftsentwicklung und die Rolle von Wissen, Bildung, Forschung und Entwicklung aufzuzeigen. Im Wettlauf der Nationen soll auch die Rolle des Staates und seine politische Einflussnahme über die Innovationspolitik untersucht werden. Das vorliegende Kapitel ordnet diese Thematik in den historischen Kontext ein und bereitet damit den Boden für die folgenden Kapitel.
