Scholars from think tanks have considerable influence in all spheres of American society. In David Ricci’s opinion, increasing knowledge promised social security which led to the founding of think tanks in the Progressive Era. This optimistic belief in progress reflected the consultation of such an elite group of wise men. The US administration made the assumption that scholarly advise would serve the public interest rather than self-interest.
