Zusammenfassung
Synthetische Esterverbindungen gab es bereits Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts. Diese besaßen aber keine Bedeutung als technische Kunstharze. Erst nach Entdeckung der Polyesterreaktion mit Styrol (Ellis-Foster-Patent 1937) und Entwicklung der Textilglasverstärkung entstand mit den „Glass Reinforced Plastics“ eine neue Werkstoffgruppe.
