Abstract

Auf Grund der Zunahme an Trennungen und Scheidungen in modernen Industriegesellschaften rücken Folgepartnerschaften immer mehr in den Fokus der familiensoziologischen Forschung. Sind in einer aufgelösten Partnerschaft Kinder vorhanden gewesen, ist mit dem Eingehen einer neuen Partnerschaft auch die Bildung einer Stieffamilie verbunden. Stieffamilien sind historisch natürlich kein neues Phänomen. Während aber Stieffamilien bis noch vor etwa 60 Jahren fast ausschließlich nach dem Tod eines Elternteils entstanden, werden Stieffamilien heute überwiegend nach einer Trennung bzw. Scheidung der leiblichen Eltern gegründet. Die familialen Strukturen weisen entsprechend einige Besonderheiten – wie die mehrfache Besetzung von elterlichen Rollen – auf, die die Beziehungsgestaltung stark beeinflussen und zumeist eine große Herausforderung für alle beteiligten Akteure darstellen. Dieser Beitrag beginnt mit einer kurzen Einleitung, in der Stieffamilien zunächst definiert werden, um dann näher auf ihre Verbreitung und einige soziodemographische Merkmale einzugehen. Anschließend werden zum einen die Beziehungsentwicklung und zum anderen die Beziehungsgestaltung in Stieffamilien näher betrachtet, um darauf aufbauend die Folgen des Lebens in Trennungs- und Stieffamilien für die Entwicklung der Kinder aufzuzeigen. Abschließend wird ein Fazit gezogen und ein Ausblick auf den zukünftigen Forschungsbedarf gegeben.
