Zusammenfassung
Die Soziologie konstituierte sich als eigenständige Disziplin in Auseinandersetzung mit ökonomischen Theoretisierungen von Gesellschaft. Bekannt ist die Zurückweisung der politisch-ökonomischen Vertragstheorie durch Émile Durkheim und seine Betonung der vorvertraglichen Grundlagen von Gesellschaft. Indes zeigt gerade dieses Beispiel, dass es der der Soziologie durchaus nicht immer wirkungsvoll und nachhaltig gelang, sich in volle Abgrenzung zu politisch-ökonomischen und wirtschaftswissenschaftlichen Idiomen zu setzen, konzipierte Durkheim doch die Struktur moderner Gesellschaften als „organische Solidarität“ gerade entlang des aus der politischen Ökonomie stammenden Vertragsgedankens (Graeber 2001: 153).
