Abstract

A child’s ordinal place in the family has long been thought to have enduring implications for personality development and psychological well-being. The concept of birth order as a mechanism to understand children’s behaviour was formally developed by Alfred Adler (Adler, 1931), who thought that children’s positions in the family greatly influence their overall development and attitude toward life.
