Zusammenfassung
Die in der abendländischen Geschichte wohl erste systematische und institutionalisierte Auseinandersetzung mit dem Beziehungsgefüge von Emotion und Konflikt findet sich in der sophistischen Redekunst. Bekanntlich ist Platon vielerorts gegen die Sophisten ins Feld gezogen – so auch in Sachen Redekunst. Im Gorgias etwa erscheint die sophistische Rhetorik als substanzlose Schmeichelei, die der Wissenschaft allenfalls so gleiche wie die Kochkunst der Medizin.
