Abstract
A precise registration of CT images of the lung is of eminent importance for various applications in pulmonary image analysis. The aim of this thesis has been to investigate how registration can benefit from an explicit consideration of lung-specific morphological and physiological characteristics. In detail, methods were developed to accurately align the pulmonary lobes and to model sliding motion at the lung boundaries. For both purposes, anatomical knowledge is incorporated based on a segmentation of the structure in demand.
