Zusammenfassung

In Deweys umfangreichen Schriften nimmt die Beschäftigung mit Kunst und ästhetischer Erfahrung nur scheinbar eine marginale Rolle ein. In seinem kunstphilosophischen Hauptwerk Kunst als Erfahrung überschneiden sich viele Themen und Gedanken, die zum Kern seiner Philosophie gehören. Seine im Alter von 75 verfassten Reflexionen zu den Charakteristika ästhetischer Erfahrung und zur gesellschaftlichen Rolle der Kunst lassen sich daher auch als Fluchtpunkt seiner Philosophie begreifen.
