Zusammenfassung
Bereits in ihren Anfängen meldete die empirische Wahlforschung begründete Zweifel an der Annahme an, dass alle Bürger in Wahlen gemäß ihren wohlverstandenen Interessen entschieden. Daran hinderten sie, so die meist amerikanischen Beobachter, nicht zuletzt ein geringes Interesse an Politik und gravierende Wissenslücken (etwa Berelson, Lazarsfeld und McPhee 1954; Campbell et al. 1960).
