Abstract

The most recent era of multinational military interventions following the end of the East-West conflict is drawing to a close. This is suggested by the, at best, mixed results of the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Balkans as well as by the increasing disillusionment among the political and military leaders in the troop-contributing nations.
