Zusammenfassung
Während des Zweiten Weltkriegs, am 29. Mai 1942, wurde in Großbritannien ein „National Famine Relief Committee“ (Nationales Komitee zur Linderung von Hungersnot) ins Leben gerufen. Ziel des Komitees war es, authentische Informationen über die Versorgung der Bevölkerung in von Deutschland besetzen Ländern zu erhalten und ggfs. Nahrungsmittel und medizinische Hilfe zu entsenden. Besorgniserregend war insbesondere die Situation in Griechenland, wo allein im Winter 1941/1942 aufgrund einer Seeblockade der Alliierten 200.000 Griechen den Hungertod starben.
