Die Indexanalyse (lat.: indicare - anzeigen), der vor allem in der Wirtschafts- und Bevölkerungsstatistik eine besondere praktische Bedeutung zukommt, hat die Beschreibung der zeitlichen oder der räumlichen Veränderung ökonomischer bzw. demografischer (grch.: demos - Volk + graphein - schreiben) Phänomene mit Hilfe von Verhältniszahlen zum Gegenstand.
