Tidal Potential with Location-Dependent Amplitude and Phase Angle

Abstract

The tidal disturbing function has been developed in a form such that the Love number k and lag angle δ are expressed as a sum of spherical harmonics which are functions of latitude and longitude of the Earth. Solutions are made for the zonal harmonics to fit results obtained from artificial satellites. However, it does not appear that the time scale problem of the lunar orbit evolution can be solved without an appreciably smaller overall lag in the Earth in the past.
