Abstract
The completion in 1951 of the Strength of Materials Laboratory, the first of seven new laboratories of the Mechanical Engineering Research Laboratory at East Kilbride, enabled the various materials researches, formerly undertaken in the Engineering Division of the National Physical Laboratory, to be expanded. Research on fatigue is thus continuing in the tradition of some of the well-known pioneers in this field of fatigue research, e. g., Sir T. E. Stanton and Dr. H. J. Gough.
