Zusammenfassung
Der Beginn der 90er Jahre war durch die Diskussion und Umsetzung der Lehren der MIT-Studie geprägt. Die Automobilindustrie — als „das Beispiel“technologie- und dienstleistungsintensiver Unternehmen — war das Untersuchungsobjekt der Studie und eine Zielsetzung lag in der Formulierung von Instrumenten zur Gestaltung der Faktoren Kosten, Zeit und Qualität für eine Nutzung auch in anderen Branchen. Eine zentrale Bedeutung wurde dabei einer Informationsperspektive i.S. einer markt- und wissensorientierten Wertkette[l] eines Unternehmens zugeordnet. Spätere Untersuchungen galten weitergehend nicht „nur“den Prozessen in und zwischen Unternehmen, sondern insbesondere einer Gestaltung der Geschäftsprozesse einer gesamten Wertkette, vom Kunden bis zum Rohstofflieferanten.
