Zusammenfassung

Bei den verschiedenartigen Erkrankungen des Gehirns, bei Hirntumoren, Verletzungen, Hirnerschütterungen, Entzündungen, Hydrocephalus, den sogenannten Pseudotumoren (Nonne9 u. a.) spielt das, was wir als Hirndruck10 zu bezeichnen pflegen, eine hervorragende Rolle. Hierher gehören Kopfschmerzen, Pulsverlangsamung. Erbrechen, Schwindel, Stauungspapille, Bewußtlosigkeit, Krämpfe, Atemlähmung, Änderungder Weite der Pupillen (Hössly1 ) u. dgl. Diese Symptome werden ausgelöst, wenn ein Mißverhältnis eintritt in der Masse des Schädelinhaltes und dem Fassungsvermögen des Schädels, sei es nun, daß, wie bei einer Depressionsfraktur, das Schädeldach in das Gehirn hineingetrieben wird und dadurch den Raum verkleinert (Reichardt2), sei es, daß umgekehrt das Gehirn schwillt und die starre Wand der Schädelkapsel diese Ausdehnungsbestrebungen hemmt. In beiden Fällen wird ein Druck auf die Nervenzellen des Gehirns ausgeübt und diese mechanische Reizung oder Schädigung der Nervenzellen führt zu den geschilderten Symptomen.
