Das einfachste Mehrelektronenatom ist das Helium-Atom. Im Grundzustand füllen seine beiden s-Elektronen gerade die innerste Schale mit der Hauptquantenzahl n=l. Weitere Elektronen haben in dieser Schale keinen Platz mehr, wie wir im folgenden noch sehen werden.
