Zusammenfassung
Nach Eliminierung aller brennbaren und explosiblen Anästhetika und Gase aus dem Operationssaal blieb es, die Schädlichkeit von Spuren von N2O und halogenierten Kohlenwasserstoffen im Operationssaal zu überprüfen. Die Untersuchung über Folgen einer chronischen Exposition mit Anästhesiegasen beim Operationssaalpersonal wurde zuerst mit Hilfe epidemiologischer Untersuchungen, danach durch In-vitro-Studien an Zellkulturen, an Labortieren und an Menschen gemacht. Unzählige Untersuchungen über die Fertilität, spontane Abortusraten, die Inzidenz konginentaler Malformationen, Mortalität, Karzinomhäufigkeit, Beeinträchtigung des hämopoetischen Systems, Lebererkrankungen, neurologischen Erkrankungen und psychomotorische Tests wurden gemacht. Die größte epidemiologische Studie stammt vom Ad-hoc-Kommittee der ASA 1974 (Ad hoc Committee an the Effect of Trace Anesthetics). Sie hat knapp 50 000 Fragebögen an das Operationssaalpersonal als exponierte Gruppe und an 24000 Personen der amerikanischen Akademie für Pädiatrie und der amerikanischen Schwesternassoziation als nichtexponierte Gruppe verschickt. Es wurde eine erhöhtes Risiko an spontanen Aborten, kongenitalen Abnormalitäten bei Kindern von Frauen, die im Operationssaal arbeiteten, ein erhöhtes Risiko an kongenitalen Abnormalitäten bei nichtexponierten Frauen von männlichen Operationsangestellten, ein erhöhtes Risiko für Zervixkarzinomen bei Frauen im Operationssaal und eine erhöhte Inzidenz von Leberfunktionsstörungen bei beiden im Operationssaal exponierten Geschlechtern gefunden.
