Vitamin Disorders

Vitamins are micronutrients. They are essential for health, are consumed in small amounts, usually function as enzyme cofactors and in other catalytic roles and are excreted relatively unchanged. Vitamins are subdivided into fat-soluble (A, D, E, K) and water-soluble (the rest). The fat-soluble ones and vitamin B12 tend to be stored in the body. Thus states of vitamin excess or hypervitaminosis may occur. The water-soluble vitamins are excreted through the kidneys and rarely accumulate.
