Zusammenfassung

Der Thymus ist ein branchiogenes, paarig angelegtes Organ, das sich aus den ventralen Abschnitten vorwiegend der 3. Schlundtasche (Thymus III), möglicherweise (inkonstant) auch aus der 4. Schlundtasche (Thymus IV) entwickelt. Insofern besitzt der Thymus, entwicklungsgeschichtlich gesehen, eine metamerale („bmnchiomere“) Struktur.
