Zusammenfassung
Valproinsäure wird mit unterschiedlichem Erfolg bei einer Vielzahl auch ätiologisch unterschiedlicher, in ihrem Bewegungsmuster qualitativ und quantitativ sehr verschiedenartiger extrapyramidaler hyperkinetischer Bewegungsstörungen eingesetzt. Dies wurde mit Ausnahme der Chorea minor nur in Einzelpublikationen dokumentiert und meist nur an sehr wenigen Patienten. Bei der bekanntermaßen sehr schwierigen und insgesamt noch immer wenig erfolgversprechenden Therapie der Hyperkinesen stellt Valproinsäure dennoch eine Bereicherung im Sinne der Alternative zu anderen therapeutisch sinnvollen Substanzen und eine Möglichkeit der Kombination zu diesen Substanzen dar. Ohne umfangreichere Doppelblindstudien an größeren Patientenzahlen mit definierten Krankheitsbildern läßt sich der wahre Wert von Valproinsäure für die angeführten Krankheitsbilder aber nicht abschließend beurteilen.
