Zusammenfassung
Das Ziel der medikamentösen Behandlung von Gallensteinen ist ihre Auflösung. Auflösbar sind nur Cholesterinsteine, die 90% aller Gallensteine bei Westeuropäern, Amerikanern und Australiern ausmachen. Verkalkte Cholesterinsteine oder Pigmentsteine sind nicht auflösbar. Die Behandlung muß nebenwirkungsfrei sein, da sie eine Langzeittherapie darstellt. Weiterhinn muß bei der Cholezystitis als häufige Begleiterkrankung eines Gallensteinleidens durch antibiotische Behandlung eine heilung der Entzündung erreicht werden.
