Zusammenfassung

Die Angst bzw. Furcht vor dem Tode ist als eine existentielle Grunderfahrung des Menschen in Philosophie, Theologie und Kunst immer wieder thematisiert worden. Bilddokumente aus unseren Tagen halten erschütternde Augenblicke von Todesangst und Todesgrauen fest. In der Literatur finden wir unmittelbare Bezüge zur Todesangst, z. B. in R. M. Rilkes „Aufzeichnungen des Malte Laurids Brigge“, in S. de Beauvoirs „Ein sanfter Tod“ und in dem Tagebuch 1966–71 von M. Frisch, der dem Leser eine Art Fragebogen zur Beantwortung und zum Nachdenken vorlegt.
