Abstract
Besides syntax and phonology, morphology is one of the traditional research areas in linguistics. Morphology is the branch of linguistics studying the internal structure of words. So, for example, a word like modernizes is composed of three building blocks or so-called morphemes, the modern, ize and -s. The present article gives an overview of experimental psycholinguistic research and psycholinguistic models on the role of morphological structure in word recognition.
