Zusammenfassung
Die diabetische Nephropathie ist ein durch Bluthochdruck, Proteinurie und fortschreitende Niereninsuffizienz gekennzeichnetes Syndrom. Die Entwicklung einer diabetischen Nephropathie ist eine gravierende, die Lebenserwartung des Patienten begrenzende Komplikation des Diabetes, wobei das renale Risiko bei Typ-I- und Typ-II-Diabetikern gleich hoch ist. Da in den letzten Jahren die Lebenserwartung von Diabetikern mit Nephropathie kontinuierlich zunahm, erreicht ein immer größerer Prozentsatz, v. a. der älteren Typ-II-Diabetiker, das Endstadium der Niereninsuffizienz. Dementsprechend liegt gegenwärtig bei etwa 30–50% aller dialysepflichtigen Patienten in Deutschland ursächlich ein Diabetes mellitus vor [11].
