Zusammenfassung
Muskelarbeit als hypoglykämisierendes Prinzip ist bei Diabetikern seit Jahrzehnten bekannt und wurde lange Zeit, so auch vom Vater der modernen Diabetologie, E.P. Joslin, als eine der drei Säulen der Diabetestherapie bezeichnet [3]. Diese Auffassung wird zwar heute nicht mehr geteilt, und es wird nun der Aspekt der Lebensqualität hervorgehoben [4], dennoch spielen Muskelarbeit und Sport nach wie vor eine wichtige Rolle bei der Ausrichtung der Diabeteseinstellung in der alltäglichen Praxis. Unabhängig davon haben neuerdings die amerikanische Physicians’ Health Study, aber auch andere Untersuchungen, ergeben, daß regelmäßige Muskelarbeit geeignet ist, das spätere Auftreten eines Typ-II-Diabetes zu verzögern [8].
