Zusammenfassung

Viren bestehen aus dem viralen Genom,welches die genetische Information des Virus darstellt und aus DNS oder RNS bestehen kann, und aus der Proteinhülle, dem sog. Capsid. Beide zusammen bilden das Virion (= Viruselementarkörper), welches manchmal noch zusätzlich von einer weiteren Protein- bzw. Lipidhülle umgeben ist. Die Vermehrung von Virionen ist ausschließlich innerhalb lebender Zellen möglich, indem die Zellorganellen von den Virionen für die eigene Vervielfältigung genutzt werden. Dabei können Virusgenome 2 grundsätzlich unterschiedliche Klassen von Proteinen kodieren: Virionproteine und Nichtvirionproteine. Den Nichtvirionproteinen kommt u. a. die Funktion zu, die DNS-Synthese der Gastzelle zu stimulieren; damit tragen sie zum unkontrollierten Wachstum der Zelle bei. Dies ist eine wichtige Voraussetzung für die onkogene Potenz einiger Viren (s. Tabelle 3.1).
