Abstract

Pancreatic carcinoma is the most frequent tumor of the pancreas. Cystic neoplasms of the pancreas are relatively rare, accounting for 1% of all pancreatic malignancies and 10%–15% of all pancreatic cysts (Cubilla and Fitzgerald 1984). However, it is important to recognize these neoplasms because of their distinctive histologic and clinicopathologic features (Cubilla and Fitzgerald 1975, 1984; Klöppel 1984; Klöppel and Maillet 1989; Yamaguchiand Munetomo1987; Mathieu et al. 1989; Friedman and Edmonds 1989; Morohoshi et al. 1983; Warshaw et al. 1990; Lack 1989) and because the survival rate is better than in pancreatic carcinoma.
