Abstract

The pancreas is located deep in the epigrastric region, just ventral to the first lumbar vertebra. It is partially surrounded by the duodenum and the liver and lies behind the stomach. Most frequently it is oriented slightly obliquely to the left and cranially, resulting in a curved form against the lumbar spine.
