Abstract
This chapter on cancers of the head and neck covers cancers of the lip, oral cavity (buccal mucosa, gums, hard palate, oral tongue, floor of the mouth), oropharynx (tonsil, soft palate, base of the tongue), nasopharynx, hypopharynx, nasal fossa and paranasal sinuses, larynx (glottic and supraglottic), salivary glands, and chemodectomas. About 40% of head and neck cancers occur in the oral cavity, 25% in the larynx, 15% in the pharynx, 7% in the salivary glands, and 13% in the remaining sites.
