Abstract

Acne necrotica is a mysterious disorder, unknown to many dermatologists, and usually unmentioned in recent texts. We acknowledge its existence despite its rarity. It has been called acne frontalis, acne varioliformis, acne pilaris, and acne necrotica. We suggest the term necrotizing lymphocytic folliculitis as used by others. Acne necrotica is actually a misnomer. The condition is not a variant of acne and bears only a superficial resemblance to an acneiform eruption.
