Zusammenfassung

Vor der Entdeckung des Insulins war es eine Seltenheit, wenn eine Diabetikerin schwanger wurde oder gar ein Kind zur Welt brachte. Bedingt durch die andauernd bestehende Hyperglykämie kam es bei den meisten Diabedkerinnen zu unregelmäßigen, anovulatorischen Zyklen (hypothalamisch bedingt). Trat dann doch eine Schwangerschaft ein, so war das Risiko für Mutter und Kind hoch: die Müttersterblichkeit lag bei ca. 50%, die perinatale Mortalität bei 70–80%.
