Abstract

We now present the basic theory for an operator equation

$$\varphi {\text{ }} - A\varphi = f$$

of the second kind with a compact linear operator A : XX mapping a normed space X into itself. This theory was developed from Riesz [1] and originated by Fredholm’s [1] work on integral equations of the second kind.
