The Mechanism of Action of Nitrates in Angina Pectoris
Although nitrates have been used for 100 years in angina pectoris, the accurate mechanism of their antianginal effect is not clear. This is not because the mechanism of their effect is unknown. On the contrary, several mechanisms, each of which contributes to the effect, have been described. However, the relative importance of these mechanisms is not known, and it is therefore difficult to specify the predominant mechanism.
