Zusammenfassung
Die Aufgabe der Bewegungstherapie und ihre Wirkung richtet sich nach Stadium und Schweregrad der Erkrankung sowie der körperlichen Leistungsfähigkeit des Patienten. Ganz allgemein kann man folgende Zielrichtungen anführen:

In der Akutphase der Erkrankung soll bei bettlägerigen Patienten

die basale körperliche Leistungsfähigkeit erhalten und
-
die Prävention von Zweiterkrankungen (z.B. Thromboembolie) bewirkt werden.

2.
Während der Rekonvaleszenz soll die körperliche Leistungsfähigkeit gesteigert und wenn möglich wiederhergestellt werden.

3.
Im chronischen Stadium der Erkrankung wird eine Steigerung und Erhaltung der verbesserten körperlichen Leistungsfähigkeit sowie eine Prävention von Rezidiven und Spätkomplikationen angestrebt.

4.
Vor allem in der Hospitalisationsphase bewirkt die Bewegungstherapie eine psychische Stabilisierung. Prospektive Studien in der chronischen Phase des Herzinfarkts konnten jedoch keinen eindeutigen Effekt auf Angst oder Depression nachweisen (Übersicht bei Langosch 1988).
