Chronic Progressive Nephrosis, Rat

  • Chapter
Urinary System

Part of the book series: Monographs on Pathology of Laboratory Animals ((LABORATORY))

Abstract

Little gross change is seen in the early stage of chronic progressive nephrosis; however, in advanced cases the weight of the kidneys may exceed by twice or more that of the mature breeder rat. The increase in size and weight of the kidneys in older laboratory rats is generally proportional to the extent of the disease. In most cases, both kidneys have a tan appearance and a granular surface marked by fine pitting and small cysts.
