Abstract

This description of surgical research in the Federal Republic of Germany, is the expression of a personal view, rather than a survey of all institutions. It is based on the senior author’s experience during several years of training at three different university surgical departments—Munich, Marburg, and Kiel and as the incumbent of the second chair of surgery at the University of Cologne.
