Zusammenfassung

Die Anwendung moderner Beatmungstechniken in der Neonatalogie hat die Überlebenschancen von Früh- und Neugeborenen mit Atemstörungen wesentlich verbessert. Andererseits können durch die mechanische Ventilation erhebliche, unter Umständen lebensbedrohliche Komplikationen auftreten, die der Radiologe rechtzeitig erkennen muß. Unter diesen Komplikationen spielen die Barotraumen, die zu pathologischen extra-alveolären Luftansammlungen führen können, eine wesentliche Rolle. Barotraumen entstehen vor allem leicht bei mechanischer Ventilation mit positiv-endexspiratorischem Druck (PEEP), insbesondere bei unreifen Lungen.
