Abstract

A class of transformations on binary images which assign to each pixel of an object its distance from the nearest object boundary. The actual transformation varies with the distance measure. Simple city block type measures can be implemented using shrink operations. Euclidean distance measures are harder to implement in parallel. The transformation is also used on lines, where the measure is some digital arc length.
